A green energy project is emerging on a 667-square-meter site in the heart of Shishan Town, Nanhai District, Foshan. With a total investment of RMB 587 million, this innovative facility is set to transform everyday household waste into clean, high-purity hydrogen.
Once up and running at full capacity, the plant will process up to 500 tons of municipal solid waste every day – that is the equivalent of clearing out about 25,000 full 200-liter garbage bins daily.
The project will generate over 9,100 Nm³ of green hydrogen per hour, with an impressive purity of 99.97%. This makes it a major player in solving the region’s hydrogen supply challenges, cutting costs, and supporting the local shift to clean energy.
The environmental impact is just as powerful. By handling 500 tons of waste per day, the facility will reduce carbon emissions by 385 tons daily, adding up to 140,000 tons of CO₂ saved each year. This is comparable to the carbon sequestration effect of planting approximately 7.78 million trees.
More than just a waste treatment site, this project is pioneering a new model of urban sustainability. It combines cutting-edge technology with a bold vision for the future – one where cities can be cleaner, greener, and powered by the waste they leave behind.
